3ti’s twin Halo FastHub installation brings sustainable EV charging to one of the North West’s busiest NHS hospital sites, delivering 24 charge points and approximately 40 kWp of Solar PV in just three days.
Northern Care Alliance (NCA) NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS organisations in England, serving a population of over one million people across Greater Manchester. Salford Royal Hospital is one of its flagship sites – a busy acute hospital where staff, visitors, and patients arrive in significant numbers every day.
Like many NHS trusts, NCA has made decarbonisation a strategic priority, committing to ambitious carbon reduction targets in line with NHS Net Zero goals. For Estates and Facilities teams, translating that commitment into on-the-ground action means finding practical, cost-effective solutions that work within the constraints of live, operational hospital environments.
The Challenge
The site needed EV charging infrastructure fast, traditional routes, grid upgrades and months of civils simply weren’t an option. With high footfall from visitors, outpatients and staff arriving around the clock, and capital pressures that favour flexible, low-disruption deployment, the team needed a solution that could be delivered at pace without closing the car park or disrupting patient services.
What We Delivered
3ti deployed two Halo FastHub units side by side, delivering a 24-charge-point solar EV charging hub in a single coordinated installation. Cabling was routed up and through the first Halo FastHub to power the second, eliminating the need for separate cable runs and significantly reducing civils and electrical costs. Approximately 40 kWp of Solar PV was integrated across both units, generating a substantial proportion of charging energy on-site. Smart-charging technology optimises available grid capacity and solar generation across both units in real time. With site preparation complete, the full installation was commissioned within three days.
