JLR's Halewood plant is transitioning towards becoming its first all-electric production facility. Staff needed low-carbon workplace charging that matched the scale of that ambition.

The Project Story

Challenge

Support an electric future

As JLR’s Halewood plant transitions towards electric vehicle production, the shift to electric extends beyond the vehicles being manufactured on site.
JLR wanted to make EV ownership more practical for employees too, providing convenient workplace charging for people making the transition to electric vehicles.

For employees who may not have access to charging at home, being able to charge while at work can make a significant difference. JLR needed a solution that could support this growing demand while aligning with its wider sustainability ambitions.

Solution

Low-carbon workplace charging.

Two HALO FastHubs were installed at JLR’s Halewood plant, providing 24 EV charge points for employees.
The hubs combine workplace charging with integrated solar generation, producing renewable electricity directly where vehicles are being charged and supporting JLR’s wider Reimagine strategy.

By locating charging at the workplace, employees can make use of the time their vehicles are already parked on site, providing a practical way to support the transition to electric without relying solely on access to home charging.

Outcome

Making EV ownership viable.

Employees now have convenient access to EV charging as part of their working day, including those who may not have the ability to install a charge point at home.

The hubs are already seeing significant use, demonstrating the demand for workplace charging and the role employers can play in making the transition to electric vehicles easier for their people.
For JLR, the installation also brings together two sides of the transition to electric: producing the next generation of electric vehicles at Halewood while helping the people who work there make the switch themselves.
